Al-Ard Al-Khadra الارض الخضراء

Al-Ard Al-Khadra (The Green Earth) is a ground-breaking initiative that works twofold: it aims to clean the main water source in the Ein-Sinia village located North of Ramallah, in addition to raising the environmental awareness of youth, and teaching them ways to maintain a cleaner environment. The initiative was designed by participants in the 11th Youth Leadership and Community Engagement training (30/30) who believed that planting trees is one of the most vital methods to keep the water source clean.

Perhaps one of the best ways to cultivate a desire to contribute to one’s society occurs when a relationship is built between the person and the land, and the Green Earth initiative does just that. Besides cleaning and planting trees, the initiative aims to establish a global relationship between young people and the spaces that give them a home and a life.

This unique initiative brought together young volunteers from high schools and universities to work together on cleaning land and planting trees at Ein-Sinya village.

Students from Birzeit and other local universities, American University in Washington, DC, and a local high school in Ein-Sinya worked tirelessly in the hot sun to achieve as much as possible. They all collaborated to gift the community a greener space and cleaner water.
